Every night, viewers of South African soap opera Skeem Saam tune in to watch the lives, loves and laughs of the residents of Turfloop. But this week, the spotlight has been turned on the marriage of two of the show’s most prominent characters, Buti and T’bose.
Mapitsi and T’bose have been married for years, and have raised a child together. But that could all be in jeopardy now, as T’bose has gone missing or, more accurately, gone on a bender with his brother Leeto.
He left Mapitsi at home with the promise of coming back later, but 24 hours later, there is still no word from the couple’s husband. This is not the first time T’bose has done this, and it’s not the first time his drinking has caused a rift in the marriage. Buti is rightfully worried about her husband’s whereabouts and the effects his drinking will have on the stability of their marriage.
Fortunately, Mapitsi is surrounded by good friends and family who give her the support she needs. Marothi is one such ally who is doing all she can to help Mapitsi and take her mind off her troubles with T’bose.
It remains to be seen whether or not Mapitsi and T’bose’s marriage can survive the latest hurdle. Will Mapitsi be able to keep her husband in line and put an end to his wild drinking, or will the marriage succumb to the sadness and despair of addiction?
Stay tuned as Skeem Saam continues to deliver thought-provoking drama that will have you discussing the characters’ plights long after the credits have rolled.
