A KwaZulu-Natal man has been sentenced to life in prison for raping his 8-year-old daughter in 2018. The Ulundi Regional Court convicted him for the crime that happened in Mahlabathini. The girl’s mother abandoned her, and she lived with her father who, intoxicated at times, forced her to sleep with him. The abuse came to light when the child mimicked acts she saw from her father while playing. Her caregiver reported it to police after noticing blood on her underwear.

The prosecutor backed the case with testimony from the girl and her classmate, plus medical evidence. The father is also placed on the National Register for Sex Offenders and banned from working with children. The child’s family is invited to provide input if he seeks parole. Natasha Ramkisson-Kara of the NPA emphasized that such sentences are vital for justice and crime prevention. Elsewhere, singer Makhadzi called Master KG her “soulmate” during a media briefing, despite their past breakup.
