DA Western Cape Chief Whip died on Wednesday

“Lorraine will live in our memory forever as a kind and loving colleague who was admired equally by our own caucus as well as members of other political parties,” said Winde.

According to News24, Botha died after collapsing while at work at the Western Cape Legislature in Cape Town. In a statement, the province’s provincial leader, Tertius Simmers, said the DA was deeply saddened by her passing.

Lorraine’s husband, Johan Botha, died in January 2021, said Simmers. Both were integral on the ground as part of the Weskus DA team for many years before Lorraine was elected to the provincial parliament in 2014 and eventually ascended to the role of Chief Whip.

“This is a role which she took on with her trademark dedication and elegant dignity,” said Winde.

“The DA caucus of the Western Cape Legislature will miss her and hold her legacy high. Our deepest condolences go out to her sister, Ms Jeanette Maistry, and family. May they have strength at this sad time” he concluded.
