Former Kabushi Constituency Member of Parliament BOWMAN LUSAMBO was detained and charged by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) with electoral corruption.
Mr. LUSAMBO has been detained and charged with violating Section 81 of the Electoral Process Act No. 35 of 2016 on four charges of bribery.
The crimes were conducted in Ndola between April 1 and August 14 of 2021, just before the general election that month.
Timothy Moono, the ACC’s manager of public relations, today confirmed the arrest to ZNBC News.
According to Mr. MOONO, the arrest came after the Constitutional Court recently overturned Mr. LUSAMBO’s election as the representative for the Kabushi Constituency due to his involvement in electoral misconduct.
He said that as a result of its ruling, the Constitutional Court published a Report outlining the election fraud committed by Mr. LUSAMBO.
Bond has been obtained for Mr. LUSAMBO, who will likely show up in court soon.
In the meantime, the ACC is questioning former Kwacha member of parliament JOSEPH MALANJI.
MAKEBI ZULU, an attorney, and Mr. MALANJI arrived at the commission’s headquarters at around 09:50.
